Wolfgang Petry
Petry founded his band “Screamers” during his school days, and later finished an apprenticeship as a precision mechanic. In 1975, Tony Hendrik and Karin Hartmann were introduced to Wolfgang Petry by their mutual friend Andreas Martin. Petry was playing a gig at the club “Whiskey Bill” at the time. Tony and Karin saw Wolfgang Petry’s potential right away. His debut single “Summer in the City” was a #16 German chart hit, and Petry appeared on the ZDF “Hitparade” (TV charts). The first LP was called “Zweisaitig (two stringed)”. Petry went on tour for the first time, other singles like “Jessica” followed and charted as well. Hendrik / Hartmann also produced and wrote the next LP releases “Einfach Leben” and “Wahnsinn” (1983) with the famed “Wahnsinn (craziness)” single, which became a huge hit for Petry. Up to 1984, the Coconut dream team composed and produced a total of twenty singles and seven LPs for “Wolle” (as his fans call him dearly). The musical “Wahnsinn” – based on Wolfgang Petry’s career – has been a big box office hit since 2018… and proves how popular the star from Cologne continues to be.
